Show notes

Healthcare in Kenya can feel like a maze designed by someone who hates you. We can’t fix the system in an hour, but we can give you a map.

In this episode

  • How the Social Health Authority (SHA) works and how to check what you’re covered for
  • Five questions to ask before agreeing to any procedure
  • Why getting a second opinion is normal and smart
  • Asking for an itemised bill, estimates and payment plans
  • Your rights as a patient: consent, records and complaints

Five questions to ask before any procedure

  1. What exactly is the procedure, and why do I need it?
  2. What happens if I don’t do it, or wait?
  3. What are the risks and the recovery time?
  4. What will it cost in total, including theatre, anaesthesia and the ward?
  5. How much will my cover pay, and what is left for me?

Coverage rules change. Always confirm current benefits with SHA or your insurer.
